Omnipresence widely or constantly encountered; common or widespread. (Of God) present everywhere at the same time. Sometimes, we try to run away from God, or avoid him.
Sometimes we let our shame blind us to his presence. We shut him out and we feel far from God, but that feeling is a lie. Like Jonah when he was tossed into the sea and sat in the belly of the whale, God is ALWAYS there. Jonah sat in a dark place, smelly, gross, and probably wondered - “Will I ever get out of this? How long will I be here?” But he knew, God was there. It easy to feel and know his presence when are delighting in him and connecting with him regularly.
It’s easy to take the knowledge of his presence with us after He’s there with us on our mountain top experiences.
But what happens as we return to our regular day-to-day and those feelings fade? Do we remember that he is there with us in our deepest times of despair? Do we consider that if he is present with us always, he is present with everyone else always?
He is not only present with us in the church on Sunday mornings. He is not only present in the pastor’s house or in the houses of prayer warriors.
He is also present with those in positions of power who oppress. He is present with the revelers who engage in debauchery and reject His name. He is present those suffering from addiction, who escape the realities of life through the high.
The good God that he is, He patiently waits for us to see Him. He waits for us to pause long enough to recognize he is there. He says, “I will never leave you or forsake you,” even when we leave and forsake him.
For that, we thank you, Father. You are amazing. We honor and adore you.
Father, give us spiritual eyes to see you in ALL circumstances, in ALL places, in ALL people. Give us your patience, persistence, compassion, and agape love for all those we encounter. We thank you for your steadfast love and presence. We love you. Amen.
Psalm 139: 7-10 (ESV) Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and swell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
